When I found this recipe, I was a bit reluctant because it's just like vagarli roti except with bread. We tried it out when we first moved in, and it turned out good. You can either make this dish dry or "wet" by adding in yogurt and water.
8-10 bread slices (preferablly, day old. We used 1/2 loaf from a bakery)
1/2 finely chopped onion
2 green chilles, ground into paste
1 inch piece of ginger, ground into paste
3 cloves of garlic, ground into paste
Pinch of turmeric powder
1/2 tsp mustard seeds
Salt to taste
3 tbsp yogurt
3 tbsp water
2 tbsp oil
1. Heat up oil in pan. Add mustard seeds. When they fully splutter, add the onions and ginger-garlic-green chilli paste. Sautee for a minute.
2. Then add in the salt and turmeric powder. Finally add in the bread pieces and combine well.
3. If you prefer, you can add in the yogurt and water and cook for 1-2 more minutes to let the flavors combine.
This time, the bread upma was okay. It may have been the bread's texture. Overall, it's a good idea for breakfast.
